Ceramicist Kawai Kanjirō: The Sources of His Creativity in Traditional Ceramics
For our winemaking team, the words of potter Kawai Kanjirō—“Life is work, work is life”—resonate with the care and dedication we bring to making wine each day.
Kawai sought beauty in everyday life while pursuing his own distinctive forms. To mark the 60th anniversary of his death, Seikado @ Marunouchi is presenting this exhibition dedicated to his work.
Featuring 51 works by Kawai from Seikado’s collection, the exhibition traces the sources of his creativity. It offers an opportunity to reflect on craftsmanship rooted in everyday life.
Kawai studied at Tokyo Higher Technical School, a predecessor of Tokyo Institute of Technology—our president Shigekazu Misawa’s alma mater. Tokyo Institute of Technology is now part of Institute of Science Tokyo, where Misawa also introduced this exhibition during a lecture on Japanese wine for students on 23 October.
